Jason Luce

Jason Luce was probably a brother of Bill Hickman's second wife, Sarah Elizabeth Luce Hickman.  He was a member of Hickman's gang, and in 1860 he saved Bill's life when he stabbed Joe Rhodes with a Bowie knife as the latter was climbing through a window of the room in which Bill was confined recovering from gunshot wounds.  He later committed a crime and Hickman attempted to defend him in court.  I know it's tempting to relate Bill Hickman's gang, Hickman's Hounds with modern gangs, who wear baggy pants, bandannas and gang colors.  This would be a mistake.  They were more like the Jets in West Side Story, except that they couldn't dance as good.
